Recital!

Well, here we are! It is time to finalize schedules and plans for Finale Rehearsal on Tues. May 3rd, Dress Rehearsal on Wed. May 4th, and Recital on Sat. May 7th. As we approach this exciting event there are many details to cover so please read both sides of this newsletter, but before we get started we just want to tell you how much we have enjoyed your dancers this year. They are such a delight to teach, and we hope you know how much each and every one means to us!
Please note that we have attached a pre-registration form, (remember our early registration incentives). This year we will also reward those of you who promote the studio by giving away one month of lessons for every new dancer to Dance Unlimited as recommend and signed up by you. We have also attached DVD order forms, (please note all orders and money will go directly to our videographer), rehearsal schedules, and recital information on this letter. Anyone still owing fees will see those listed on the front of your envelopes. This is current as of March 25, 2011. Please remember that all fees must be paid in full in order for your dancer to participate in recital. If you have not turned in a costume bag we will be handing out a label for you to put on a bag yourself. Please put it on the right hand side and make sure it is secured on it with clear packaging tape.
We also want to make sure that everyone is aware of the construction going on on the Highway between Rigby and Rexburg and to allow yourselves plenty of time to get through it for both Rehearsal and Recital nights. We will start our program with our Preschool classes and then take a 10 minute intermission. It has also been brought to our attention that we need to ask all audience members to find their seats for recital early, before our younger classes begin dancing, or wait until during the intermission at the conclusion of their dances. The families of these dancers cannot watch their children when people are walking up and down the isles looking for seats. Anyone who comes in after the show has begun will be asked to wait at the back of the Auditorium or in the foyer if there is not room. Also please keep in mind that our program is being professionally video taped and the videographer is at the back of the auditorium. Nothing ruins the video for all of us more than having people walk back and forth in front of the camera. We ask that at all times we make sure that our friends and families are polite and considerate so that our dancers can have the professional recital experience they deserve. Please make everyone coming to watch your dancer aware of these requests.
This is an exciting time for a young dancer and you can help them prepare at home by making sure that they are practicing and making it to class. Thank you so much for all of your support and don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions!

*Tues. May 3rd: Finale Rehearsal. Creative movement dancers do not have to come to this practice. All other dancers need to be at the studio by 5:00 p.m. Dancers need to wear the “summer wear” they are planning to use for the finale. We are dancing to a medley of summer songs for our finale, and they can use anything that looks like beach or summer wear. Please make sure that the costume is modest and appropriate to dance in. (No halter or midriff tops, short shorts or skirts without leggings.) We will run the entire finale 4 or 5 times. We will be finished by approximately 6:00 p.m. We will be awarding perfect attendance awards at this practice, but we will hand out certificates during class instead of at this practice. This should help keep the finale rehearsal a bit shorter.
*Wed. 4th: Dress Rehearsal, Kirkham Auditorium:
Below you will find a list of each class’s rehearsal times. We have blocked the hour from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. for the Creative Movement classes, and they are the only dancers that should be there during this hour. There will be a class ending in the Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. and we can’t set up and begin until they are done. We will start lining the first 3 classes at 5:30 and we will begin as soon as we can. We will run each dance only 1 time. At 6:30 p.m. we will start with the older dancers, and classes listed in that hour need to be there at the beginning of their hour with the first 3 classes listed lined up and ready. Approximately half way through the hour we will rehearse that group’s finale section. When dancers have finished rehearsing their numbers, and their section of the finale, they may leave. Those who are waiting will be asked to please sit quietly until we get to their number. This can be a very hectic night and we have had problems in the past with kids running around the building or auditorium and causing problems. This can be very distracting to the dancers who are on stage, and we as teachers need to be able to focus on what we are doing and not trying to look after the other dancers. We need to have every member of the class there at least 10 minutes early, dressed and ready so that they can be lined up off stage and ready to come on when it is their turn. We will start on time and we will stay on time, and we will not be able to back track the rehearsal to accommodate late arrivals. Please arrive in the costume listed below as they will be rehearsing in it first, and bring the other costume, (or costumes), with you. After they have rehearsed the dance in the first costume they will quickly change into the second one and rehearse in it. We will have very little time in between numbers to change for their next number and so we may have to stay right in the Auditorium area to do so. Refer to the “Recital costume list” that we will be sending out to make sure that you have all of the pieces, and accessories, and how their hair needs to be worn for recital. If you have not received all of your costume pieces yet we will be handing them out ASAP with the costume bags. Also please be aware, there will be no flash photography allowed during recital, so if you wish to photograph your child dancing on stage, do so only during dress rehearsal!

* Saturday May 7th : Recital, Kirkham Auditorium:
Dancers must be at the Kirkham by 4:30 p.m. Recital will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. When you arrive the dancers should already be dressed in their first costume with their hair and make-up done. We will be posting a line-up on the bulletin board at the studio, and we will be sending home a detailed list with each dancer of what they are to do with their hair, what to wear, and what to bring. Each dancer will have a costume bag with their name and class time, and the names and order of their dances, all classes have a colored coded label on them to help the dressers identify which class they belong to. This bag is to bring their other costumes and supplies in. As far as make-up goes, we need to have them wear eye shadow, mascara, blush, & lip stick. Without this, their faces simply get lost once they get on stage with the lights and costumes. Also be sure that you have included things such as bobby pins, safety pins, etc. We have several people lined up to help the dancers change and get ready for each dance. Once you drop your child off in their dressing rooms, moms will not be allowed back in. (It is very distracting during the performance.) We will be taking a brief intermission after the Creative Movement classes have performed all of their numbers and at this time the parents will need to come to the stage and pick up their dancers and then collect their supplies from the dressing rooms. Also at this time those audience members who wish to leave may do so then. This will allow more seating to be available for those coming to watch the older dancers. Just a reminder, the dancers are not to wear underwear during the recital. They should only wear their tights. Also bras need to be nude or white, and strapless or clear strap.

* Rigby Stampede Parade June 11th 2011: We will once again be riding on a float in the Rigby Stampede parade on Sat. June 11th. We want every dancer to have the opportunity to ride and take part in this fun even with us. We will meet in front of the Rigby LDS Stake Center at 9:30 a.m. and dancers need to wear their “Dance Unlimited” t-shirts or a black t-shirt if they don’t have one of ours. We know this is a way off but put it on your calendar now!
